Hijri ↔ Gregorian Converter

Convert any date between the Islamic (Hijri / AH) and Gregorian calendars. Uses the standard tabular algorithm.

Uses the standard tabular Islamic calendar algorithm. Real-world dates may differ by ±1 day depending on moon-sighting in your region. Qatar Moon-Sighting Committee announces Ramadan, Eid al-Fitr and Eid al-Adha by official sighting.

How the Hijri calendar works

The Hijri calendar is purely lunar - 12 months of 29 or 30 days giving a year of 354 or 355 days. Because it is shorter than the solar year, Islamic months drift through the seasons over a 33-year cycle. 1 AH begins on 16 July 622 CE, the year of the migration (hijra) of the Prophet Muhammad from Mecca to Medina.

Worked example

1 Ramadan 1447 AH begins around 18 February 2026 by the tabular algorithm; the actual Qatar start may be 17 or 18 February depending on the official moon sighting.
